Friday 9th April - To the Ocean

Friday 9th April. Early start again. There were a whole flock of cockatoos in the trees above John and Anne's patio as well as the usual galahs and lorikeets and the kookaburra chorus. Finished packing the car and then We set off with Anne for Coolum Beach. Anne was so busy telling us about what we could see that we missed a couple of turnings but we did get there in the end.

Coolum Beach i
s about 75 miles north of Brisbane on the Sunshine Coast, and their cottage is one of the originals, fronting onto a strip of bush which gives access to a beautiful beach. John followed on with the camper and arrived in time for "smoko" - (elevenses for the uninformed). The garden of the cottage is mainly exotic trees and bushes and is patrolled by a scrub turkey which lives under one of the trees.

After sorting ourselves out and having lunch we went to visit a nearby ginger
factory that also had a a collection of native trees in part of the grounds. Once it had cooled down a bit we went for a walk along the shoreline where surf babes and ospreys appear to co-exist quite happily. By the time we got back to the cottage it was nearly dark and time for cocktails, a beef curry supper and an early night.
